Logoman, RPAs and Prime Patches. That’s what 2013-14 Panini National Treasures Basketball is all about.

Each box of National Treasures will contain 10 cards with eight autographs or memorabilia cards, one printing plate and one base card or parallel.


Panini will keep much of what has made National Treasures popular over the years such as Logoman, Rookie Patch Autographs, and Kobe’s All-Rookie Selections.

Sneaker Swatches will debut in 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball, featuring pieces of game-worn sneakers from current and retired players.

One of the highlights from National Treasures will be Treasured Tags Autographs featuring the small logo from jerseys with autographs from star players. In addition, collectors can find Timeless Prime memorabilia cards that contain large patches.

2013-14 National Treasures Basketball is set to come out July 30 with a price tag of more than $500 a box.

Panini America Offers Special Sneak Peek at 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball



CLEVELAND — Saturday afternoon, live from the floor of the 2014 National Sports Convention, Panini America and Layton Sports Cards will team up to unveil one special preview case of the highly anticipated 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball. But since we know not every collector can make it to Cleveland this week, we’re going to give those of you at home a special pre-sneak peek (for lack of a better term) at the greatness that awaits when 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball arrives in hobby shops across North America on August 20.

But we’re not just going to share some sweet new pics of National Treasures in this post. We’re also going to showcase some of the first hard-signed cards that have arrived back at Panini America HQ for 2013-14 Flawless Basketball, too.


In some small way, we hope the following gallery can help give everyone at home a little bit of Panini America’s National Sports Collectors Convention hospitality.

If you thought last week’s one-case preview break of 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball with Layton Sports Cards live from the floor of the 2014 National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland was spectacular, well, you’d be right. But just wait until you see what kind of sneak-peek pyrotechnics we have in store for you here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming days.

We spent some high-quality time yesterday morning at the Panini America production facility testing the memory bandwidth of our smartphones by taking as many tantalizing pics as possible of seemingly everything 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball has to offer. Between now and when the product releases on August 20, we’re going to be sharing those images with you right here.


With so many options, we had a difficult time determining where to begin our monumental countdown. Ultimately, we settled on the simply sublime Treasured Tags insert, a new addition to the National Treasures arsenal that features some of the sickest laundry tag pieces the basketball hobby has ever seen. In the gallery that follows, we showcase just some of the beauties, including many hard-signed versions from the likes of Kyrie Irving, Larry Bird, Tony Parker, Shaquille O’Neal, Karl Malone, Dominique Wilkins, Anthony Davis and more.

Inside NT: Panini America Adds Springfield Swatches, X Factor to Memorabilia Lineup



The Knight’s Lance tipped off Panini America’s official countdown to the August 20 release of 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball yesterday with a revealing look at the highly anticipated product’s new Treasured Tags insert. Today, our countdown continues with a captivating examination of the all-new Springfield Swatches and X Factor game-worn memorabilia inserts and the new-look Timelines memorabilia insert.

On this particular weekend (what with the Naismith Memorabilia Basketball Hall of Fame inducting its 2014 class and with Panini America’s own Scott Prusha and Ivory Tabb  on location in Springfield, Mass.), previewing the history-soaked Springfield Swatches is a no-brainer. We think you’ll find many of the swatches in question to be absolutely mind-blowing.


In addition, the prime versions of the deftly designed X Factor and extra-thick, vertically oriented Timelines featured below are also sure to resonate with hardcore National Treasures loyalists. Inside NT: Sneaker Swatches Add Kick(s) to 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball



Since the dawn of the game-worn memorabilia era in modern trading cards roughly 20 years ago, just about everything that can be worn or used in a professional game has been cut up and incorporated into trading cards. Jerseys. Pants. Gloves. Helmets. Face masks. Skates. Sticks. Balls. Pucks. Cleats. Bats. Bases. Towels. But for any number of valid reasons, the jersey has become the predominant memorabilia piece of choice.

But when Panini America’s 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball releases next week, company officials will place a long-overdue extensive focus on some of the most talked-about and fashionable pieces of memorabilia in professional sports: Game-worn NBA kicks.


Game-worn sneaker cards have been done on an extremely limited basis before. In fact, Panini America has featured them as rare inclusions in promotional sets such as Black Friday and Father’s Day for the last three years. But with the Sneaker Swatches insert in 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball, company officials are raising the bar considerably with a 35-card unsigned set and a 25-card autograph set — both incorporating extra-thick pieces of game-worn basketball shoes from some of the NBA’s biggest superstars.

Included on the checklist? Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Blake Griffin, Grant Hill, Penny Hardaway, David Robinson, Shaquille O’Neal, Larry Johnson and many more.

The first thing you’ll notice about Sneaker Swatches is the uniqueness of the shoe piece that provides a refreshing contrast to even the most multicolored prime jersey patch. After that, you’ll likely marvel at the sheer girth of the cards themselves, which offers a tangible reminder of just how different processing shoe leather is as opposed to a standard game-worn jersey.

Inside NT: International Treasures, Notable Nicknames, Prime Memorabilia and More



Think you’ve seen just about everything Panini America has in store for next week’s release of 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball? Not quite. Although we’re now exactly seven days away from the product going live, we still have more goodies to reveal. Sure, we’ve shown you Treasured Tags, Sneaker Swatches, Springfield Swatches and more — yet more wonders await. Like the product’s Notable Nicknames insert . . . and the International Treasures insert . . . and some downright dirty prime-memorabilia options in the Air Apparent, Career Materials and NBA Materials inserts.

We’ve provided a little bit of all of that in the preview gallery that follows. Consider this your final NT appetizer before we get to our final two sneak peeks: One focusing on the product’s stacked autograph roster (including the likes of Carmelo Anthony, Manu Ginobili and more), the other on a little something we like to call “Logomen.” But we’ll get to those in a day or so. Inside NT: Legendary Logomen Add Luster to 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball




Logoman. Three syllables. One word. And the mere mention of it conjures up visions of collecting royalty. It’s arguably the most in-demand prime piece in memorabilia card history, a most patriotic patch with a red, white and blue silhouetted player (Jerry West, of course) that commands instant attention, big bucks and the respect and every collector who sees it. Today, then, it stands to reason that a lot of attention and respect will be given to this post — a quick gallery documenting just some of the masterful Logomen punctuating 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball.

You’ll notice among the images below some of the first Panini America autographs ever featuring San Antonio Spurs superstar Manu Ginobili. He’s a fitting addition to a product that was created to house collection-makers like Logomen. Enjoy the gallery that follows and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage leading up to Wednesday’s release of 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball.


It’s worth noting that Ginobili’s autographs for National Treasures were returned too late to include in packout. But collectors can take solace in knowing that his redemption cards in 2013-14 National Treasures are in house and ready to be fulfilled immediately.

Inside NT: Eyeing the Autograph Excellence of 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball



Tomorrow, at long last, Panini America’s 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball will arrive in hobby shops across North America, offering countless breathtaking reasons as to why it’s still one of the most important high-end brands in hobby history. We’ve brought you many of those reasons in recent days right here on The Knight’s Lance with a slew of saliva-starting galleries. Today, we offer one more.

While we’ve shown you just about everything there is to show up to this point, there’s still some pre-release images we haven’t shared. So we went through our iPhone and dumped every last remaining 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball image into the following gallery which places a tantalizing focus on some of the rich on-card autograph content in the product.
